MYP 9

The structure of atoms: 9.2.6 - Electronic configurations

Objectives

  • To know the electronic configurations of the first 20 elements
  • To relate the electronic configuration to the element's position in the periodic table.

Activity

Discussion of the nature of chemistry using a lump of iron as example.

Physical and chemical properties

Magnify iron to see underlying structure to help explain physical property

Magnify an iron atom to see underlying structure to help explain chemical property

Use short form of the periodic table to introduce electronic configurations and their relationship with the periodic table.

Student follow up
