The structure of atoms: 9.2.5 - The use of isotopes in society
The students are to research the use of radioisotopes in society and prepare a "One World Essay" of between 800 and 1200 words that explains how their specific isotope is used to solve or partially solve a problem that arises in society.
They should explain how the problem and solution is linked to economic, social, cultural, moral or environmental issues (a "factor").
They must also discuss the implications and limitations of the radioisotope use.
They are allowed to bring in flash cards and must also prepare a typed bibliography in advance.
The essay will be written in a double class period of 1 hour 20 minutes.
