Action of heat on cobalt II chloride
Instructions:
Part I
- Place one spatula of cobalt II chloride in a dry test tube.
- Heat gently at first and then strongly until no further change occurs.
- Allow to cool and and add a few drops of water to the COOL residue.
Part II
- Make up a strong solution of cobalt chloride by dissolving 3 spatulas
of cobalt chloride in 5 cm3 of water.
- Dip a piece of filter paper into the solution and dry it out over
a hot gauze (too hot and it will char the filter paper)
- Observe the change in the paper. Dip the paper into some water - observe
again
